Summary:

Senior Energy Trader required for a large energy trading business in London, trading energy generated from Renewable sources. They are a well established UK market player and also have a 1100MW portfolio of generating capacity.

The Trading Team is responsible for managing the company’s power, gas and carbon positions in the relevant wholesale trading markets. The Trading Team manages the company’s longer term positions, both in regard to proprietary trading and customer initiated transactions, and provides a point of contact for some of the company’s largest clients. The Trading Team is tasked with delivering against an annual profit target, while operating in accordance with the relevant defined risk parameters.


The details of the role are as follows :

 

• The Senior Trader will operate as leader of the company’s small trading team, carrying out activities including:
• Leading the development and implementation of trading strategies and tactics, and executing transactions in power, gas and carbon, to achieve the annual profit target whilst complying with risk limits and trading control procedures.
• Optimising price risk management activities, ensuring that new marketing contracts with generators and energy supply companies can be taken onto the trading book position and hedged as necessary.
• Supervising the completion of detailed analysis of power, gas and carbon market
fundamentals.
• Developing marketable trading products in line with agreed company strategy and objectives.
• Developing and maintaining relationships with wholesale counterparties & trading service customers.
• Contributing to internal Risk Committee & Credit Risk Committee meetings and activities.
• Liaising with the Energy Management Centre (EMC) to manage short term power and gas positions.
• Maintaining records and systems, and developing and maintaining procedures.

 

Experience and skills:


• 2-3 years trading experience in the UK power, gas and carbon markets, gained in a similar role within an energy trading company.
• Experience of leading the development & implementation of speculative trading strategies and tactics with accountability for delivery against annual profit target.
• A detailed understanding of the fundamental drivers of the UK power, gas and carbon markets.
• A detailed understanding of the analysis necessary to support both speculative trading and the management and optimisation of physical plant.
• Previous experience of FSA regulation of UK energy markets would be an advantage.
• Counterparty management experience.
• Self-motivation and initiative.
• Good communication, interpersonal and team working skills.
• Enthusiasm and flexibility.
• Customer service orientation and general commercial awareness.
• Knowledge transfer aptitude.
• Sound Microsoft Office and analytical skills.
